Cadillac Is Making The CT4-V / CT5-V Blackwing’s Manual Gearbox Quieter And More Durable

Cadillac says it’s working to refine its six-speed manual transmission that will be available in the upcoming CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing to make it quieter and less prone to overheating.

These are the more powerful and more performance-oriented versions of the CT4-V and CT5-V sedans. Although the powertrain has still not been fully revealed, both will have a manual transmission from Tremec. Now Cadillac has announced that is working to ensure that the manual driving experience is refined.

“We made changes in the design of the manual, added double isolation on the transmission lines and added a higher flow transmission pump (making it more durable from overheating),” a Cadillac spokesperson told Cadillac Society recently.

The sound deadening should help the roadgoing experience remain quiet and luxurious. The increased fluid flow, meanwhile, should mean that the transmission is more reliable and durable during hard track driving.

Moreover, the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing will be the first GM vehicles to feature 3D printed parts. These include two HVAC ducts, a bracket for an electrical harness, and a shift-pattern medallion on top of the stick shift.

Buyers who opt not to go for the manual transmission can, instead, choose the 10-speed automatic that features in a number of GM products, including the Camaro.

Engines for the cars have not been confirmed, but rumor has it that the CT4-V Blackwing will get the same 3.6-liter V6 as the ATS-V while the CT5-V Blackwing will have a 6.2-liter V8. Power levels could be in the neighborhood of 450 hp for the CT4-V and 650 hp for the CT5-V.
