GMC has sent the first Hummer EV prototypes to GM’s Milford Proving Grounds to continue validation tests and then head to northern Michigan for some “grueling winter testing”.

The company promises to document and share every step in the development process in the coming weeks and months as the electric Hummer charges towards its initial production target in the fall of 2021.

General Motors used a lot of virtual testing for the electric pickup truck, which accelerated the process by a significant amount, and will continue using the same procedure across the entire company.

The Hummer EV will feature three electric motors with a combined output of 1,000 HP and 11,500 lb-ft (15,592 Nm) of torque, sending the behemoth to 60 mph from a standstill in a mere three seconds.

As explained by Todd Hubbard, the model’s vehicle performance engineer, the Hummer EV will feature 13 inches of suspension travel together with four-wheel steering and 35-inch tires as their goal is to create the best truck they can. It will also be compatible with bigger 37-inch tires, which will be a dealer-installed option, and promises to re-write the off-road rule book with its advanced torque vectoring e4WD system.

The powertrain employs GM’s new Ultium battery pack, which provides an estimated driving range of 350 miles (563 km) and can be recharged at a 350 kW fast-charger, adding 100 miles of range within 10 minutes.
