China’s Ford Equator Snapped Before Local Market Launch

A host of new images of the Ford Equator have surfaced out of China some three months after the first images of the SUV emerged online.

The Ford Equator comes courtesy of the Jiangling-Ford joint venture and has a wheelbase of 2,865 mm (113 inches) while measuring 4,905 mm (193 inches) long, 1,930 mm (76 inches) wide, and 1,755 mm (69 inches) high.

The exterior design of the Equator is quite a lot different than other Ford models with the front sporty striking LED daytime running lights and a large black front grille. Viewed from the side, the size of the SUV becomes apparent and it’s hard not to notice the high and flat roofline. Key elements of the rear include the thin taillights, LED light bar, and the spoiler stretching off the roof.

These new photos from Car News China provide us with our first look at the interior of the Equator. The centerpiece of the cabin is a large screen encompassing the infotainment screen and the digital gauge cluster and sits neatly on top of a wooden section of the dashboard. A prominent transmission tunnel and center console also separates the driver and front-seat passenger and houses a rotary dial as opposed to a traditional gear selector.

Customers will only have a single engine to choose from, taking the shape of a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 221 hp. This engine will be coupled to either a five-speed automatic or a five-speed manual depending on the preference of the customer. Rear- and all-wheel drive configurations are available.
