Nissan had already announced that it would unveil the new Frontier on February 4; now, it has confirmed, in a short video, what we already suspected; that it will be joined by the all-new 2022 Pathfinder.

This being a teaser, Nissan has scrupulously kept revealing details to a minimum, but there are some things we might be able to decipher from it.

The teaser focuses on the Pathfinder badge, which is variously covered in snow and caked in mud and “tells” us to “find a path.”

This could mean that the upcoming model will be more capable off-road – and if that’s the case, it would be good news to the brand’s U.S. dealers who want a more rugged SUV to capitalize on market trends and are asking for a return of the Xterra. Though this certainly won’t be a replacement for the Xterra, the zeitgeist might have already pushed Nissan to move in that direction.

A previous teaser showed us C-shaped headlights that are vaguely similar to those on the new Armada, which may help us glean a bit of information about Nissan’s thinking here.

Last September, a reader sent us pictures of a camouflaged test car which seemed to indicate that the Pathfinder will go with a more upright, chunkier design. That will contrast against the current Pathfinder whose design is a little more jelly-beany. We have also previously seen shots of a test car’s interior, which suggest that (unsurprisingly) the infotainment system’s screen will grow for the 2022 model year.

Luckily, we have less than a week to go until Thursday, February 4, when Nissan will pull the wraps off the 2022 Pathfinder, so we’ll have all our questions answered pretty soon.
