After the Clubsport, Volkswagen is ready to release yet another variant of the Golf GTI dubbed the Edition 45.

Designed to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the hot hatch, these leaked images of the Golf GTI Edition 45, which were leaked on a number of sites including Auto Express, reveal that it has received a handful of cosmetic upgrades over other GTI variants.

The most notable changes are the fitment of new black alloy wheels with a red pinstripe, a new front splitter, black graphics on the sides, enlarged tailpipes and the same rear diffuser and wing as the GTI Clubsport. Photos of the car’s interior have yet to surface, but it will likely include a sports steering wheel and seats, new trim and, possibly, some ‘45’ embroidery or special inscription.

As the car has yet to be officially presented by Volkswagen, it is hard to say whether it is based around the standard Golf GTI or the Clubsport. The presence of the same rear spoiler, diffuser, and tailpipes as the Clubsport leads us to think it could be the latter. If that’s the case, then the car will rock a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 296 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission transmitting power to the front wheels. The GTI Clubsport can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 6 seconds and we expect no difference with the Edition 45, if it is indeed Clubsport-based.

More details about the car should be released in the coming days or weeks.
