The 2022 Ford Maverick has been caught undisguised during a video shoot in San Diego, California.
Snapped by a TFL Truck reader, the images follow hot on the heels of past spy photos and reveal new details about the truck.
While there are only two pictures, we can see the Maverick will have plastic body cladding, pronounced fender flares and a front vender vent that echoes the one found on the Bronco Sport. We can also see streamlined bodywork and a relatively flat beltline that eschews the ‘front door dip’ found on F-Series pickups.

The bed is relatively short and features cladding that wraps around the sides and continues up the C-pillars. The model also has vertical taillights and a tailgate with Maverick lettering.
While the front end isn’t visible these in photos, previous pictures have shown the Hyundai Santa Cruz competitor will have a single bar grille with a mesh insert. The bar also incorporates turn signals which flow into C-shaped headlights.
Ford has been tight-lipped about the truck, but it’s slated to ride on the same platform that underpins the Escape and Bronco Sport. Engine options are expected to be shared with the crossovers and include a 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder that produces 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque. There could also be a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 275 lb-ft (373 Nm) of torque. Both should be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.
The 2022 Maverick will be introduced later this year and previous reports have suggested the truck could start at less than $20,000.
