The Ioniq 5 caused a stir when it was revealed a week ago, but there’s been a lot of talk about its deceptive size. Now we have video footage of the EV in the real world to get a better sense of its scale.

There’s no way around it: it is pretty big. From tip to tail, it’s longer than a Tucson but the two people in this first video agree that it doesn’t really look bigger than a Tucson, even when they’re standing right in front of it.

That could be as a result of the big 20-inch wheels or their placement right at the edges of the vehicle, something that we’re more used to seeing on hatchbacks than crossovers. Either way, it doesn’t look very smaller than the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo it’s parked next to.

A shot of the vehicle’s interior, meanwhile, gives us a better indication of what it looks like. In black (and with the obligatory water bottle in the cup holder for scale), the Ioniq 5’s interior looks modern.

The seats look comfortable, as they should, but the infotainment system’s bezels are, if anything, a bit disappointing to this writer. Still, with twin 12.3-inch screens, there should still be a lot of real estate for whizzbang graphics.

You do get the impression that there’s also a lot of real estate inside, which is one of the advantages of having the wheel pushed out to the extremities of the vehicles.

The second video also gives you a good idea of how big the Ioniq 5 is as it’s parked next to a Veloster. Painted black with silver accents, it proves that the silver version isn’t the only one that looks retro and rad.

As excited as we are to get a better impression of what the Ioniq 5 looks like, we’ll be even more interested to see what it’s like to drive.
