When it was launched over a decade ago, the Nissan GT-R put every other performance car on notice not only due to its remarkable capabilities but also its relatively affordable price. Fast forward to 2021 and the R35 GT-R is still kicking, although the price has jumped and the range is now topped out by the limited-edition GT-R50 by Italdesign.

Featuring a host of mechanical modifications and an all-new exterior, the GT-R50 by Italdesign is quite a striking thing. It also happens to cost more than $1 million, well over 10 times the price of the original R35. Is it worth the money? YouTuber ThomasGeigerCar recently had the opportunity to find out.

While the YouTuber’s review is only 5-minutes long, he does have the opportunity to speak about some of the alterations made to the car that distinguish it from other GT-R variants. He was also given the exclusive opportunity to drive it on the street, and while this example is a prototype, it still looks to be lots of fun to drive.

Like all other versions of the GT-R, the special edition from Italdesign is outfitted with a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. However, this powertrain has been tuned by Nismo and now delivers 710 hp, a full 110 hp more than the GT-R Nismo.

Then there’s the exterior. The Japanese sports car has a new bodywork, including a heavily-revised front fascia with distinctive headlights, an enlarged grille, and heaps of gloss black elements. The rear has also undergone a comprehensive transformation and includes a hydraulic wing and distinctive LED taillights.
