The Honda S2000 was always a remarkable car, but in recent years they have skyrocketed in value – and if this example is any indication, that won’t stop any time soon.
For a car that sold new for $34,000 just over a decade ago, appreciation that could rise to more than 100% is pretty wild, though not unheard of for S2000s. This car that’s up for sale at Bring a Trailer has so far, and with one day left in the auction, attracted a highest bid of $51,599.
Mind you, apart from the S2000’s popularity, there’s another reason for the price: it has only driven 1,900 miles (~ 3,060 km).
The car was first purchased in South Carolina and, apparently, was stowed away until 2020 when it sold to the dealer that is now selling it. It’s got a clean Carfax report and, as you’d expect, is nearly perfect save for a scratch on the underside of the front fascia.

This being an AP2 model, it is powered by a 2.2-liter VTEC inline-four that makes 237 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. With a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip diff, this S2000 should be more than capable of giving you all the sports car fun that you’d ever hoped for. If you can bring yourself to cause the odometer reading to grow, that is.
About a month ago, we posted a Hagerty video outlining how to buy one and the basic premise was that the S2000 is a driver’s car and it would be a shame not to drive it. That’s also what makes examples in this condition so rare.
As we mentioned, prices for S2000s are going up – and an example this good may only become rarer as time goes on. The question of whether it’s time to pop this time capsule open and enjoy it, or if it should be preserved and wait for it to appreciate even more, is something its future owner will have to answer.
I suppose there are worse problems to have.
