Mercedes-Benz has revealed an early teaser for the EQT compact electric van, which it promises to unveil on May 10.

Taking place in 19 days, the unveiling will happen via an extensive video on Mercedes’ video platform, Mercedes Me, as well as on social media at 11:00 AM CEST (5:00 AM EST).

The company has also taken the time to produce a video featuring skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. The video has been designed to prove how good the EQT will be as a lifestyle and family vehicle, not just a commercial vehicle.

Gordon Wagener, Chief Design Officer for the Daimler Group, Marcus Breitschwerdt, head of vans, will also be present to show off the electric van’s many highlights.

The EQT will be the electric entry into the upcoming T-Class family. The compact van class is new to the Mercedes stable and will slot in under the V-Class, which has gained a reputation as a handy family machine as well as a commercial van (under the name “Vito”).

“With the T-Class’ new layout and design, we achieve a fusion of functionality and desirability”, Wagener said in July 2020, when the first T-Class teasers came out. “With our unique design philosophy of Sensual Purity, we create an attractive family companion being the T-Class inspiring with its design, proportions and its perceived value.”

The T-Class is being developed in partnership with Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi so it will be interesting to see what platform the EQT electric version goes onto.

Whatever underpins it, Mercedes promises that this will be the “first premium small van” and that it will offer an attractive entry point into the brand’s family of vans.
