Mitsubishi has one of the most uninspiring product lineups of any modern car manufacturer but were it to revive the iconic Lancer Evolution, it would be a perfect starting point in changing that. This rendering from Rain Prisk shows what a new-generation Evolution could look like, even though it will never see the light of day.

In creating this design concept, Rain Prisk started off with a sleek, long-slung sedan that has pronounced arches and a prominent shoulder line. The car is noticeably longer and lower than the Evo X and certainly has all the right ingredients to make the new Subaru WRX STI look a little fat and bloated.

Located at the front of the Evo XI rendered here are angular LED headlights and a prominent black grille that exposes a large intercooler. The car also features two prominent air extractors on the hood and sports a pair of bulging front wheel arches that sit above sporty wheels finished in black and wrapped in low-profile tires.

The sides of the (hypothetical) next-generation Evolution are especially striking and feature prominent creases that add to the sedan’s aggressive looks. There are no renderings of the rear, but we can see it does feature a large wing.

Mitsubishi is currently focused on building SUVs and crossovers, rather than sedans, so it is improbable that a new Evo will become a reality. Instead, there’s a greater chance that Mitsubishi will launch a performance-focused variant of one of its SUVs than resurrect the Lancer Evolution.
