Mazda has started accepting pre-orders for the MX-30 Electric in Australia. The first batch includes 100 units, with deliveries to kick off from August.

The Japanese company’s small zero-emission crossover is offered in a single trim level named Astina, which starts at AU$65,490 (equaling to US$50,554) and offers a generous range of equipment.

Things such as the 18-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree camera system, auto-dimming mirrors, glass sunroof, dusk-sensing LED headlamps, and keyless entry and go are standard. It also features single-zone climate control, a 7-inch TFT multi-info display, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-tone cloth and leather upholstery, power adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, sat-nav and others.

On the safety front, the 2021 MX-30 Electric is equipped with emergency lane keeping with blind spot and road keep assist, front cross traffic alert, hill start assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, radar cruise control, smart brake support, driver monitoring, traffic sign recognition, tire pressure monitoring system and 10 airbags.

Customers can choose from Ceramic Metallic, Jet Black Mica and Arctic White paint finishes, or from the Machine Grey Metallic and Polymetal Grey Metallic optional shades, which carry a AU$495 (US$382) premium. The three-tone option costs AU$995 (US$768) for the Ceramic Metallic, and AU$1,490 (US$1,150) for the Soul Red Metallic and Polymetal Grey.

The MX-30 Electric uses a 35.5 kWh battery mounted in the floor that powers a 107 kW (145 PS / 143 HP) and 271 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque electric motor, which drives the front wheels through a single-speed reduction gear transmission. The battery pack can be charged from 20 to 80 percent at 6.6 kWh in around 3 hours, or in 36 minutes at 50 kWh. When plugged into a standard socket, the time increases to approximately 9 hours. The total driving range is rated at 200 km (124 miles).
