With no less than 986 hp on tap, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale is among the most remarkable supercars currently on sale and Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire recently had the opportunity to put it through its paces.
The SF90 Stradale is the first mass-production Ferrari to feature a hybrid powertrain (the LaFerrari was a limited run). It comprises of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and three electric motors, two on the front axle and one between the internal combustion engine and the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The V8 puts out 769 HP (780 PS / 574 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, and with the electric motors, total output grows to 986 HP (1,000 PS / 735 kW).
As you would imagine, Farah is blown away by the performance but incredible straight-line speed isn’t the only thing that the SF90 has going for it. Farah notes that while the car’s eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is shared with other Ferrari models, it has been tweaked specifically for the SF90 Stradale, making the shifts even smoother.

Like other hybrids, the SF90 Stradale features regenerative braking, but the reviewer notes that Ferrari has calibrated the brakes in such a way that you don’t notice any difference, not something that can be said for many cars with this feature.
Ferrari also appears to have nailed the car’s suspension. It soaks of up bumps very smoothly and is no less comfortable than other Ferrari models.
Indeed, that is one of Farah’s key takeaways of the SF90 Stradale. He says that those who buy it will get to enjoy all the power that is provided by the hybrid powertrain without any compromises with the car’s drivability and usability on the street.
