The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer were launched in March and in this promotional video, we get to hear from a number of FCA designers into what makes the duo so special.

This clip includes interviews with the likes of FCA chief design officer Ralph Gilles, director of Jeep Exterior North America Tim Anness, director of Advanced Color and Materials North America La Shirl Turner, and head of Jeep, Chrysler and Advanced Interior Design for North America Chris Benjamin. They all provide an interesting insight into the designs of the large SUVs.

Gilles is particularly fond of the attention to detail present in the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, pointing to things like the knurlings found on various buttons and switches throughout the interior. Turner mentions that the various different interior configurations take inspiration from the world of fashion as well as things we use in our everyday lives and what’s out there in nature. For example, the Grand Wagoneer has an available Blue Agave interior color scheme that was inspired by the Blue Agave plant native to Mexico.

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer share the same underpinnings but the Grand Wagoneer has a blingier exterior, is loaded with more luxurious features and has been designed as a rival to the likes of the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS, as well as local competitors including the Lincoln Navigator. By comparison, the regular Wagoneer is much more affordable, with its $57,995 starting price undercutting the Grand Wagoneer by nearly $30,000, and is marketed as more of a rival to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition.
