The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class goes on sale in select European markets as the most luxurious variant of the German flagship sedan.

The new Rolls Royce-rivaling Maybach S-Class features an 18 cm (7-inch) longer wheelbase than that of the “regular” S-Class LWB, an increase that has exclusively benefited the rear passenger compartment.

Aside from the bigger footprint, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class features a new radiator grille with vertical chrome pinstripes, while the bonnet now hosts a chromed fin. Other exterior details include a fixed quarterlight in the C-pillar, new wheels, and of course Maybach badges.

In addition, customers can opt for the trademark Maybach two-tone paint finish with a dividing line to make the appearance of their new limo even more striking and exclusive. The two-tone finish is applied in a special paintshop by hand and can take up to one week to be completed.

The biggest highlight however can be found in the rear compartment; as with every Maybach, the new S580 and S680 are “particularly suitable for chauffeured driving”. Based on the completely new interior design of the S-Class, the new Maybach models add things like electrically operated rear doors that are integrated into the Active Blind Spot Assist system, model-specific front seat backrests with high-quality wood trim surrounds, active noise cancellation, adaptive rear lighting, and more.

The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class also features a calf massage function for rear passengers for the first time, integrated into the calf rests of the rear Executive seats. The optional fridge has a capacity of 10 liters and is removable, while tick the right box in the options list and Mercedes will add a set of silver-plated champagne flutes too.

In order to offer the most isolating experience, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class features different rear wheel arches from the regular S-Class with an additional cavity to make room for the extra sound-deadening material. Thicker laminated glass, noise-optimized tires with foam absorbers, and the aforementioned active noise cancellation system further suppress noises from the road and the outside world in general.

Customers in Europe will have to choose between two variants of the new Maybach S-Class: the S580 4Matic, which is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 with 496 HP, and the range-topping S680 4Matic, which employs a 6.0-liter V12 with 603 HP. The latter represents the first time a Mercedes V12 is paired with all-wheel drive and is the only new S-Class model available with a V12 engine.

The first examples of the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are expected to be delivered in the second half of the year to customers in Europe.
