Honda introduced the 2022 Civic Hatchback and, as expected, it follows in the footsteps of the sedan.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the 2022 Civic has adopted a more mature design that is a bit boring. Think of it as a boy racer who grew up and traded his Civic Si for an Accord.

For those of you who think the model looks too plain, there’s relief in the form of Honda genuine accessories. Introduced in Japan today, they give the hatchback a little bit of character.

Honda didn’t go into many specifics, but the model can be equipped with a new front skirt, mirror caps and stylish 18-inch aluminum wheels with a two-tone design. Customers can also order mud / rock guards and a stylish rear spoiler. The latter is the star of the show as it gives the car a sportier appearance and doesn’t interfere with the operation of the hatch.

Interior changes are more modest, but Honda will offer illuminated door sill plates with “Civic” badging. Customers will also be able to order illumination for the center console and cup holders as well as projection lamps that beam a Civic logo onto the ground. Car Watch also noted the company showed additional items at a presentation in Japan including floor mats and cargo liners as well as footwell illumination.

As a refresher, the 2022 Civic Hatchback will go on sale in the United States later this year and be offered with two different engines including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS) and 138 lb-ft (187 Nm) of torque. Customers will also be able to opt for a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque.
