V10 diesel-powered VW Touareg models have always been rather special and a modified example was up for auction through Cars & Bids with the SUV selling for $16,000.

The VW Touareg has been offered with a plethora of engines since it was first introduced in 2002, including a massive 6.0-liter gasoline fueled W12 that delivered 444 hp and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. However, perhaps even more desirable than that engine was the 5.0-liter turbodiesel V10 that the Touareg could also be optioned with. Fifteen years ago, VW released a viral video of the Touareg V10 towing a Boeing 747.

This powertrain is good for 310 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque and the listing reveals this Touareg has a number of other desirable features. For example, it includes adjustable air suspension, locking center and rear differentials, 4-zone climate control, heated and power-adjustable front seats with memory function, and 18-inch wheels. The seller has also fitted large mud-terrain tires, Brembo yellow brake calipers, and a Yakima roof basket to make it perfect for off-road adventures.

The listing notes that the SUV is being sold with a clean Carfax report and has 81,100 miles (130,517 km) on the clock.

Despite the vehicle’s age, the exterior design isn’t all that dated. However, the interior is certainly starting to show its age, due in part to the wooden accents found across the center console and dashboard. Nevertheless, this Touareg could prove to be perfect for someone looking for a capable SUV that can double as a good off-roader and tow vehicle without buying a brand new model.
