Smart has been anything but smart as they’ve embarked on a disastrous U.S. launch and failed to acknowledge the fact that consumers want crossovers instead of dorky city cars.
However, the company is finally wising up as they’ll use the Munich Motor Show to introduce an electric crossover concept. Smart released a new picture of the compact crossover today and said it will provide a glimpse at the company’s future styling direction.
The teaser image isn’t very revealing, but it shows the model will have streamlined bodywork with soft curves. We can also see a floating glass roof with contrasting bronze accents.

While the latest image doesn’t show much, previous teasers have revealed the concept will have an aerodynamic front fascia with slender headlights that are connected by a thin strip. We can also expect digital side mirrors, pronounced wheel arches and a sporty greenhouse.
The crossover will be a radical departure from Smart’s current lineup and that’s on purpose as styling guru Gorden Wagener has previously said the company has “taken the opportunity to reinvent the brand.” He also added the new design language is intended to be “cool, sexy and grown-up instead of cute and playful.”
While the crossover is technically a concept, it’s expected to preview a production model that could arrive in 2023. Previous reports have suggested it will be based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which is highly flexible and is slated to underpin a number of different models including an entry-level Volvo crossover.
