The first vehicle Volvo will offer exclusively as an EV, the C40 Recharge, will start at an MSRP of $58,750, the Swedish company announced today. That means it starts at about $1,000 less than the Polestar 2 and around $2,000 more than the top-of-the-line Tesla Model 3.

Volvo also announced that the C40 Recharge will be available in two trims, Plus and Ultimate, which will feature a 100 percent leather-free interior and an Android Operating System for the infotainment. Moreover, the Ultimate trim gets a Panoramic moonroof, Pixel LED lighting, Pilot Assist, Harmon Kardon Premium Sound, a 360° Surround View Camera, and unique 20-inch wheels.

The C40 Recharge will be offered in seven colors and buyers will also be able to get Fjord Blue carpeting at no extra charge to complement those leather-free seats, steering wheel, and shifter boot.

Based on the same CMA platform as the XC40, the C40 Recharge is effectively a coupe version of the small crossover. Powered by a 78 kWh battery pack and a pair of motors that offer 402 hp (407 PS/299 kW) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque, the C40 Recharge can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds.

Although EPA figures are not available yet, the XC40 Recharge, which has the same powertrain, gets 208 miles (338 km) on a charge. That said, the smaller C40 Recharge gets 12 more miles of range (261 miles/420 km) on the European test cycle than the XC40 Recharge (249 miles/400 km).

Customers have been able to put down a $500 deposit on the C40 Recharge since March 2021 and can continue to do so on the automaker’s website. Volvo plans to put the electric crossover into production this fall at its Ghent plant in Belgium. First deliveries in the States are expected before the end of 2021.

U.S. owners will be treated to 250 kWh of complimentary charging on the Electrify America charging network in the first three years. Finally, as with other EVs, the C40 Recharge is eligible for federal tax incentives of up to $7,500.
