Get ready to have some preconceptions reinforced, as the list of cars with most speeding tickets is anything but surprising.

Data collected by Insurify, which analyzed the number of drivers with a prior speeding ticket against the total number of drivers for 393 vehicle models, determined which cars are likeliest to have heavy-footed drivers at the wheel.

And the number one likeliest model in the U.S. to have a speedy driver at the wheel is the Subaru WRX, for the third year in a row. Gasp, I know. Subarus were represented in the list of top speeders with three models, the WRX, the BRZ, and the Impreza.

According to the data, 18.8 percent of WRX drivers have a speeding ticket, which does not compare favorably to the national average of 9.59 percent. Just like the cars, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S drivers are almost the same, coming in fifth and sixth position, respectively.

The Hyundai Group is also well represented in this list of cars with speeding drivers. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe (17.72 percent), the Kia Stinger (16.58 percent), and the Hyundai Veloster (14.65 percent) all appear in the top 10.

Although it will surprise no one that the Volkswagen Golf GTI is on the list, too, it’s not that high, coming in eighth place with 14.95 percent. This puts it behind the GMC C1500, 15.31 percent of whose drivers have speeding tickets.

Looking at the list, it’s no surprise that five out of ten are sports cars. Moreover, as Insurify notes, all ten have retail prices that are lower than the $41,044 national average as of July 2021, according to JD Power’s Automotive Forecast. This could be a factor to their higher ticket rates for the simple fact that there are more of them out on the streets.
