The new 2022 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X has all the right ingredients of an excellent pickup truck and The Straight Pipes have had the chance to put it through its paces.

The latest-generation Frontier represents a big step on from its predecessor and is five inches longer. Interestingly, its wheelbase has gone unchanged. It is also powered exclusively by the same 3.8-liter V6 with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft (381 Nm) of torque.

Coupled with the Frontier’s engine is a 9-speed automatic transmission. These reviewers are hugely complimentary of the gearbox, noting that it shifts through the gears quickly and smoothly and when it is in its manual mode, it will happily hit the rev-limiter and won’t change up automatically.

The PRO-4X variant is marketed as a more off-road-focused variant of the Frontier and comes standard with electronic locking differentials, Bilstein off-road shocks, and skid plates across the underbody. It also has a Dana rear axle. Unfortunately, the review from TheStraightPipes doesn’t include any off-roading.

Nissan Frontier models sold in the U.S. are offered in rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations and all variants come standard with Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control. Trailer sway control is also featured.

Kicking off the 2022 Frontier range in the U.S. is the S King Cab 4×2 model, starting at $27,840, excluding a $1,175 destination fee. Prices for the S Crew Cab 4×4 model then start off at $29,340 and there are no less than 8 different Crew Cab variants on offer. Sitting at the top of the range is the PRO-4X Crew Cab 4×4 starting at $37,240.
