To the casual observer, the Mercedes-Benz 500E could be mistaken as yet another old, boring sedan from the German automaker’s range. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The 500E was developed in cooperation with Porsche as the high-performance version of the W124. It was even built at Porsche’s plant in Zuffenhausen and was equipped with a plethora of performance parts. Finding a well-preserved example on the used car market can be difficult but certainly not impossible.

This particular 500E is a 1992 model and was first registered in California before moving to Virginia. It is now located in Franklin, Tennessee, has 176,000 miles (~283,000 km) on the clock and is being offered with manufacturer’s literature, a window sticker, service records, a tool kit, maintenance log, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title.

Powering the 500E is a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 derived from the R129-generation SL. This engine is good for 322 hp at 5,700 rpm and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque at 3,900 rpm and is coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The Bring a Trailer listing notes that the car’s neutral safety switch, transmission kickdown solenoid, transmission overload protection switch, upshift delay switch, and an oxygen sensor were recently replaced.

The bodywork is finished in Cabernet Red Metallic and is contrasted with silver-finished 18-inch AMG Monoblock wheels wrapped in 245/45 Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires. The interior looks to have been just as well maintained as the exterior and is bathed in beige leather with matching door plastics, door panels, and carpeting.
