The new Nissan Z has all the right ingredients to be an excellent sports car and while we will have to wait until next year before putting it through its paces, expectations are higher for the 370Z’s successor.

As it stands, Nissan is continuing to test the car and a YouTuber going by the name of Burnt Rubber recently stumbled across a prototype while looking for a place to take photos of his Nissan GT-R and a friend’s Infiniti Q60 Red Sport.

While the Z prototype had scuffs and scrapes across many of its panels from some hard miles of testing, the YouTuber was able to get some good shots of it. The guy driving the car then rocked up and was happy to give the YouTuber a peek of the interior and a look under the hood.

As we know, the Nissan Z is equipped with the same VR30DDTT, 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 as the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400. This engine is good for 400 hp and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of torque and can be coupled to either a Mercedes-sourced 9-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Towards the engine of the video, the driver of the Z jumped in the car and launched it off the line. As you would imagine, it sounds very similar to the Q60 Red Sport 400 and really sounds like a baby Nissan GT-R. This prototype had the 9-speed automatic and it can be heard shifting through the gears with tremendous speed.
