Ford and Shelby didn’t design the Mustang GT350 to be a monster on the drag strip but one owner has transformed his own GT350 into one of the quickest-accelerating road-going cars you’re ever likely to come across.

This Shelby GT350 started out life just like any other, fitted with a 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 526 hp. While this engine is renowned for its responsiveness, sound, and eagerness to rev, the owner decided to send the car to Fathouse Fabrications where it was outfitted with a pair of turbochargers.

This lifted output to an incredible 1,143 hp at the rear wheels. The tuned GT350 set a best quarter-mile time of 8.6 seconds at 163 mph (262 km/h) with the stock six-speed manual transmission still in place. Those figures weren’t enough for the owner so he sent the car back to the tuner who, since 2019, have been gradually upgrading the pony car.

The most significant change made is the fitment of a TH400 drag racing three-speed automatic transmission, which recently allowed the car to dip into the 7-second range for the very first time.

While testing out the car, the man responsible for much of its tuning piloted it down the quarter-mile in 7.58 seconds at 187 mph (301 km/h). That’s not only significantly quicker than any production car but puts the car up there with the likes of modified Nissan GT-Rs and twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Huracans.
