New standard features and technology are to blame for a $1,200 increase in the base price of the Volkswagen Jetta for the 2022 model year. The lightly refreshed sedan was unveiled just a couple of weeks ago featuring the Taos’ slightly more powerful engine.

Volkswagen announced today that the pricing for the Jetta will start at $20,195 (+$995 destination fee = $21,190) in 2022. That amount will get you the S trim with the manual transmission, which features 16-inch two-tone aluminum-alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, LED DRLs, automatic headlights, cloth seats, an 8-inch digital cockpit, and more. The automatic starts at $20,995 ($21,990).

The Jetta Sport trim is brand new for 2022 and starts at $21,095 ($22,090 w/ destination) for the manual. It includes 17-inch black alloy wheels, the sporty XDS differential, a black grille, window trim, and mirror caps, plus unique cloth comfort seats and more. The automatic starts at $21,895 ($22,890 w/ destination).

The SE trim starts at $23,795 ($24,790 w/ destination) and only comes with an automatic transmission. It features 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-way power-adjustable seats with leatherette surfaces, and more.

The SEL trim starts at $27,795 ($28,790 w/ destination) and is also only available with the automatic transmission. It is offered with everything in the SE trim plus adaptive headlights, a sunroof, a heated steering wheel, heated windshield wipers, a bigger digital cockpit, and a premium sound system from BeatsAudio, and more.

The Jetta GLI, meanwhile, will start at $30,995 ($31,990w/ destination) with the manual transmission or $31,795 ($32,790) with the automatic transmission. That’s reflective of the automaker’s decision to offer only one, fully loaded trim level for the 2022 model year. That means that the Jetta GLI S, which started at $26,345 for 2021, will no longer be available. It is also a small increase over the previous Jetta GLI Autobahn trim, which kicked off at $30,745.

It features the same 228 hp (231 PS/170 kW), 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) 2.0-liter engine, along with 18-inch alloy wheels, projector LED headlights, leather seats, the big 10,25-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment screen, voice controls, a premium BeatsAudio system and more.

Expect the 2022 model year vehicles to be in showrooms soon.
