Chevrolet has, in this, the year of our lord 2022, decided to stop offering manual locks and hand crank windows from the Silverado pickup truck.

The Silverado, though considered by most a normal luxury vehicle whose main use is driving inches behind me in my small hatchback and blinding me with its too-high headlights, is still offered as a bare-bones basic work truck.

That means that the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT Regular Cab is sold with nearly no frills. Until this model year, in fact, it could be purchased with windows and locks that you had to stretch yourself across the cabin to operate manually on the passenger side before leaving the truck, reports GM Authority. That’s like selling a smartphone with a rotary dial.

The throwback door features will now be replaced by power locks and windows, as standard. Push button start has also been added as a standard feature across the entire lineup for the 2022 Silverado.

That could be good news for fans of shorty trucks because the regular cab, two-door, standard-bed Silverado will only be offered in WT trim for the 2022 model year. So, the move will save those buyers a few bucks, since they no longer have to get the WT Convenience Package to get power windows and locks.

Refreshed for 2022, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has had its exterior styling revised to appeal more to the masses. The cabin was also rethought for the LT trim level and above.

Available with four engines, the 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine gets 20 percent more torque for the 2022 model year (420 lb-ft/569 Nm). The Silverado is also offered with a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel.
