Electric cars are becoming the new norm so tire manufacturers are closely following the trend. Goodyear has announced the ElectricDrive GT which will be the company’s first replacement tire in North America specifically optimized for EVs.

The ElectricDrive GT is described as an all-season and ultra-high performance tire which sounds ideal for electric vehicles that usually deliver high torque figures while being heavier than conventional ICE-powered cars. The tire’s design is optimized for offering long-lasting tread wear, and the asymmetric tread pattern provides good traction and handling in both wet and dry road conditions. Additionally, Goodyear’s SoundComfort Technology helps reduce road noise, a feature that is more noticeable in EVs due to the silent powertrain.

“Electric vehicles present a very specific set of requirements for load, torque, noise, range, rolling resistance, and overall performance,” David Reese, vice president, Product Development, Goodyear Americas, said.

Andrew Lau, product marketing manager, added that “With the continued growth in the EV segment, Goodyear recognized an opportunity to provide consumers with a tire designed for the unique needs of these vehicles”, specifying the target group as EV drivers looking for a replacement tire that delivers enhanced treadwear without sacrificing performance.

Starting from 2022, the Goodyear ElectricDrive GT will be available in 255/45R19 104W XL size, which is ideal for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Throughout 2022, Goodyear will expand the ElectricDrive range with more tires in different sizes.
