The General Motors Design Instagram page always manages to provide us with interesting insights into the design processes of some of their vehicles. The latest of those vehicles is the recently-released Chevrolet Silverado EV, which had somewhat of a mixed reaction at launch.
The first renderings are likely from the earlier stages of the design process, as while the design is similar to the finished truck, the proportions are much more aggressive than what would be possible for a production vehicle. Other deviations from the finished design include different lighting designs and a different “grille”, the latter of which features an hourglass shape similar to Chevrolet’s other vehicles instead of the trapezoid shape the actual truck ended up with.

The next images they shared were only of the front view, but they look much closer to production given how realistic the proportions are. The first one is a rendering, and it shows a much completely different design compared to the Silverado EV we ended up with. It features no grille outline, slim single-strip headlights, a full-width light bar that’s completely disconnected from those headlights, and fascia that’s much more triangular in shape than anything we’re used to seeing from Chevrolet.

The second of those images was another sketch with its own accompanying full-color rendering, and its design was much closer to the production truck. Like the original early rendering, this one does feature the hourglass grille and a slightly different lower bumper design, but the fascia, headlights, and light bar are almost identical to the truck we ended up with.
Overall, these images offer a cool look into the design process of some important vehicles, and we’d love to see more like them in the future.
