These Are The Winners Of The Second Porsche Classic Restoration Competition In Canada

As it did in the U.S., Porsche has also decided to recognize its Porsche Centers in Canada for their restoration work. Today, they have announced the winners of the second consecutive Porsche Classic Restoration Competition.

Designed to show off how good these centers are at restoring vehicles, cars from across the country were selected as finalists to be judged by a panel of experts drawn from the Porsche Club of America’s Canada Region and from Porsche Cars Canada, including CEO Marc Ouayoun.

The competition was split into two categories, for 911s and 356s, and there was a third award for the restoration that demonstrated the most passion.

“It was a thrill to have three 356 models as part of the competition,” said Alexander Pretsch, After Sales Director at Porsche Cars Canada. “It’s never an easy job to restore an older vehicle and the older they are the more challenging it can be. Once you start digging, you never know what you are going to find. I was amazed by what our Porsche Centres were able to achieve.”

The 911 category was taken by a rare 1986 911 Targa CE restored by Porsche Centre Lauzon. The Commemorative Edition car was built to celebrate production of the 911 reaching 250,000 units.

“This car feels almost brand new and it drives like a dream,” said Rajat Thukral, Porsche Cars Canada’s National After Sales Business Manager. “The attention to detail both inside and out is unbelievable.”

The passion award, meanwhile, was given to a team from Vancouver that made a remarkable Safari tribute complete with a suspension lift and Porsche Exclusive tartan interior.

The entrants weren’t all extraordinarily rare or old, though. Mark Motors in Ottawa, Ontario, dedicated 2,200 hours to restoring a 1969 911 E, while Porsche Centre London restored a Paint To Sample blue 930 Turbo, and Pfaff in Toronto restored a mid-90s 911 Carrera in Polar Silver that it first sold and has since seen more than 200,000 km (124,274 miles) of use.

In the end, though, Porsche Centre Saskatchewan earned the top prize in the 356 category and the overall competition. Its numbers matching 1960 356 B cabriolet with rare matching hardtop wowed the judges and Ouayoun described it as “an impeccable time capsule.”
