Polestar has officially touched down in Australia, commencing sales of the all-electric Polestar 2 before deliveries begin in March.

In a bid to drum up as much hype about the company as possible, the car manufacturer has hosted a ‘test-drive roadshow’ in Melbourne, Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane in recent weeks, giving over 1,600 customers the chance to experience the EV in person.

Nearly 300 orders for the Polestar 2 were placed in the 48 hours after the conclusion of the test-drive roadshow. Polestar Australia will sell the 2 in three different guises, rivaling the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Those who want to travel longer distances can opt for the Long range single motor variant available from AU$64,900 ($46,707). Topping out the range is the Long range dual motor version priced from AU$69,900 ($50,305).

Polestar has adopted a direct-to-customer sales model in Australia that includes a Customer Satisfaction Guarantee which means customers can return their vehicle for a full refund within seven days of delivery and as long as the car has not been driven more than 500 km. All Polestar models sold in Australia also come standard with a 5-year warranty, 5-year roadside assistance, and a 5-year service plan.

“There is incredible interest in electric vehicles in Australia, with sales increasing by more than 190 per cent year-on-year in 2021,” Polestar Australia managing director Samantha Johnson said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that the Polestar 2 is now here to help meet that demand. With 180 vehicles on-the-ground in Australia and ready for delivery in March, the Polestar 2 will further accelerate our national shift to an electric-vehicle fleet.”
