Spy photographers have snapped an assortment of odd mules over the years, but their latest sighting is on another level.

As you can see, the mystery model wears a third-generation C-Class body that has been outfitted with extended fender flares and chunky side skirts. They’re joined by a roll cage and a roof-mounted light bar.

While those modifications are interesting to note, the vehicle is more notable for its impressive ride height. The sedan also sports sizable wheels with a good amount of clearance, which presumably allow for a fair degree of articulation.

Assuming this is indeed a Mercedes mule and not a strange homebrew project, the model could foreshadow a small and rugged off-roader. This has revived speculation about a ‘baby’ G-Class, although nothing is official as of yet.

Of course, a baby G-Class would make a lot of sense as the regular model has developed a cult-like following and an affordable SUV with G-Class inspired styling and capability would presumably be a hit. In effect, it would be similar to the relation between the Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport.

That being said, virtually nothing is known about the vehicle. However, it isn’t electric as spy photographers heard the rumble of an internal combustion engine.

While plenty of questions remain, we’ll likely get a better idea of what the model is in the future.
