The Good-Old Fiat 500 Gets A Giallissima Limited Edition In Japan

The Fiat 500 got a brand-new fully electric generation in 2020 but the Italian company kept offering the old model as a cheaper, ICE-powered alternative that still has the ability to attract buyers with its charming looks. Besides being around since 2007 with a facelift in 2016, the regular 500 got a new special edition in Japan called the 500 Giallissima, with production limited to 200 units.

The main highlight of the Fiat 500 Giallissima is its yellow exterior shade. Other than that the model looks pretty standard with 14-inch wheels, black-painted mirror caps, LED DRLs, and halogen headlights. Inside we get a similar treatment with a yellow dashboard combined with dark-blue fabric upholstery for the seats. Standard equipment includes the 7-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen, a couple of USB ports, and seven airbags.

Under the bonnet, there is the old naturally aspirated 1.2-liter 8-valve four-cylinder engine producing 68 hp (51 kW / 69 PS) and 102 Nm (75.2 lb-ft) of torque. In Europe, this unit has been replaced by the mild-hybrid 1.0 FireFly three-cylinder since 2020, however, Japanese buyers don’t have access to this powertrain. Power is transmitted to the front axle through a five-speed sequential automatic transmission with paddles, while the engine is equipped with a start-stop system.

Sales of the Fiat 500 Giallissima will start in Japan from March 5, at a price of ¥2,330,000 ($20,285). For those who are looking for something sportier, Fiat is also offering the 500 Sport in a limited number of 175 units for Japan starting from ¥2,740,000 ($23,871). This version gets a more aggressive bodykit and a more potent turbocharged 0.9-liter two-cylinder engine producing 84 hp (63 kW / 85 PS).
