Getting Busted For Speeding Would Be A Pleasure If This Vintage Dutch 911 Patrol Car Was Chasing You Down

The sight of a cop car moving up fast in our rear view mirror is enough to make most of us feel slightly sick. But we can’t help thinking that getting busted for breaking the speed limit wouldn’t be so bad if it meant we had a chance to get up close with a Dutch highway patrol Porsche 911.

This 1980 SC Targa is a genuine patrol car used by the Dutch Rijkspolitie (State Police) and is still decked out with the graphics and police-specific equipment that would have been present when it was in service in the early 1980s.

According to the listing on the Collecting Cars auction site, where this car his currently up for grabs, the Rijkspolitie highway patrol specification included additional front driving lights, sirens, a blue light mounted on the Targa bar, an illuminated rear ‘STOP’ sign, and a rear-facing megaphone/loudspeaker mounted on the spoiler-free engine lid.

There is also original 1980s radio equipment, as well as a wooden accessory box containing extra items that might come in handy for dealing with miscreants on freeways in the Netherlands once you’ve used the power of the SC’s 3.0-liter flat-six and its 150 mph (240 km/h) top speed to reel them in.

SC stood for “Super Carrera” and was the badge worn by any non-Turbo 911 built between 1978 and 1984 before Porsche reverted to the Carrera name it has used ever since. The 185 hp (188 PS) engine is claimed to be a replacement unit of the same kind, and the five-speed manual transmission appears to have received a factory rebuild.

In fact, the whole car has been given some love over the last few years, but while the front end of the car was repainted in the correct Grand Prix White, it’s surprising to learn that the rear bodywork and much of the interior trim is original.

There’s no mention of any kind of history file documenting this car’s time in service, but it would still make a fun alternative to a nice, but hardly rare, standard-spec air cooled classic 911. If you want to play at being a cop in this seriously cool coupe, and are prepared to ship it out of Germany, get your bids in before Wednesday 30th.
