Hyundai is doubling down on non-fungible tokens as the automaker has announced plans to offer 10,000 Ethereum-based Metamobility NFTs later this month.

Set to go on sale on May 9th, the Shooting Star collection adopts a “reveal” method as they’ll initially have a placeholder image before the actual, individual NFT images are revealed in late May.

That’s not much to go on, but Hyundai said they’re the “first tickets to enter Hyundai Metamobility universe, the driving force to open the possibilities of future mobility.” The automaker continued down the hyperbole rabbit hole by adding, “Metamobility means the infinite possibility of human reach. Here, you can freely move from the present to the future. From any place in the world to someplace else in a blink of an eye” as there are “no more borders between imagination and reality, or the past, the present, and the future.”

While a number of people take a dim view on NFTs, these ones are interesting as each costs 0.15 ETH. Given that one Ethereum is currently priced at $2,780 (£2,224 / €2,642), that means they should retail for around $417 (£334 / €396) at current rates.

A pre-sale event kicks off on May 9th for “3,000 registered whitelist members with the most active engagement building up our Metamobility universe,” while another 6,500 Shooting Star NFTs will be offered as part of the general sale on May 10th on a first-come, first-served basis. The remaining 500 NFTs will be “distributed through various routes such as airdrops, events, and other promotions, to increase asset value for this project.”

Hyundai has embraced the NFT community with an official website as well as Discord and Twitter accounts, which have already amassed a sizable following. This hype helped their initial “Hyundai x Meta Kongz” limited edition NFTs to sell out shortly after their release and Hyundai’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, Thomas Schemera, confirmed “We plan to launch more unique NFTs based on the ‘Metamobility universe’ concept and introduce more member benefits to expand the community going forward.”
