Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 Racecar Brings STO-Derived Aero And Improved Safety

Lamborghini Squadra Corse unveiled the third generation of their Huracán-based GT3 racecar. The new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 brings a number of modifications focused on aerodynamics, brakes, engine intake system and safety, making it even more capable around the track.

The racecar has been updated to comply with the FIA 2022 technical regulations. Visually, it borrows a handful of aero components from the road-going Huracán STO, including the rear fin and the hexagonal roof-mounted scoop. The latter channels air more efficiently in the engine bay replacing the old side air intakes. The bodywork, made entirely of carbon fibre, also features new splitters and a revised diffuser. The underbody is coated in Zylon fiber contributing to more downforce compared to its predecessor.

The massive and adjustable rear wing is mounted on aluminum alloy pillars inspired by the STO and the plexiglass side windows are fixed to the carbon-fiber door panels. Inside, the roll cage has been redesigned with two additional rear pillars and honeycomb side panels made of carbon-Kevlar increasing safety.

The naturally aspirated V10 engine which sends power to the rear wheels got updated with 10 electronically actuated throttle bodies featuring titanium valves. Lamborghini says that the entire system is fixed to the engine by four screws, copying the design applied in the track-only Essenza SCV12 which makes maintenance a lot easier. Finally, the updated braking system includes new calipers and pads combined with dedicated traction control and ABS systems, plus a set of sticky Pirelli PZero tyres.

Deliveries of the Huracán GT3 EVO2 are expected to start in the second half of 2022. As with most racecars, owners of the outgoing Huracán GT3 EVO will be able to upgrade to EVO2 specification thanks to the evolution kit. The model will make its track debut at the 2023 Daytona 24 Hours race.

The first GT3 spec Huracán was unveiled in 2014, followed by the GT3 EVO in 2018 which is now replaced by the GT3 EVO2. The aforementioned models have won more than 40 international titles in six seasons. To avoid confusion, we should note that the GT3 racecars are different from the Huracáns racing in the Super Trofeo series which were introduced in 2014, 2017, and 2021.
