Just about every new EV concept that comes out seems to be trying to leapfrog the last one in terms of future-proof styling and technology. A new startup called Olympian Motors is attempting to buck that trend with a very retro theme and interior design to match.

On March 2, Olympian Motors released a short teaser for its first model, the O1. To be clear that’s an O for Olympian, not a zero, and the brand says that it’s going to “provide higher aesthetic standards and elevated quality.”

The O1 itself is very retro-themed from its robust flowing wheel arches to its teardrop tail end. Under that svelte body, Olympian says that the O1 will leverage an 82 kWh battery pack to achieve 305 miles (490 km) worth of range on a single charge. Rear-wheel drive will be standard and its top speed will be in excess of 160 mph (257 km/h).

What you might find more interesting is the interior of the O1 which makes the Tesla Model 3’s cabin look busy. Olympian says that it’s “removed 80% of buttons and switches in a typical driver cockpit” and that it won’t have any 2D screens. The EV startup states that it’ll use a “‘Voice First’ command & control” instead. We have yet to test a voice control system that was totally accurate but maybe they’ve cracked that code.

The O1 has an asking price of $100,000 and Olympian is already taking $500 deposits but as far as we can tell doesn’t have a planned production date. They also don’t seem to have anything but renders of the vehicle at this point.

We’ve reached out to Olympian in hopes that they can give us a little more information. The vehicle may be at an early stage but we can’t help but hope that it makes it to production sometime. A bit more diversity in the EV space would certainly be welcome.
