Subaru has introduced the 2023 Crosstrek, which features an all-new special edition trim.

Dressed in exclusive Desert Khaki, the $26,745 Crosstrek Special Edition has an overland-inspired exterior with Crystal Black Silica paint on the grille, door handles, side mirrors, and antenna. Designers also gave the model Low Luster Black badging and 17-inch alloy wheels with a Dark Gray finish.

Moving into the cabin, drivers will find black and red upholstery with red contrast stitching on the cloth seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and shifter. Elsewhere, there’s Low Luster Black trim, an 8-inch infotainment system, and a “high-grade instrument cluster” with a 4.2-inch multi-information display. Since the model is based on the Crosstrek Premium, it also comes equipped with heated front seats and a six-speaker audio system.

Power is provided by a familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 152 hp (113 kW / 154 PS) and 145 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission and a standard symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

As for the rest of the Crosstrek lineup, it appears to carryover untouched. However, prices have climbed as the model now starts at $23,645 which is a $500 increase. That price increase is across the range and even applies to the Crosstrek Hybrid. Unfortunately, there’s a caveat as the destination fee has increased from $1,175 to $1,225 so we’re looking at a total increase of $550.

Besides the aforementioned 2.0-liter engine, the Crosstrek can be equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 176 lb-ft (238 Nm) of torque. However, with gas prices exceeding $5 per gallon, the plug-in hybrid variant is far more interesting.

It features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and an 8.8 kWh battery pack. This setup gives the Crosstrek Hybrid a combined output of 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and an electric-only range of up to 17 miles (27 km).
