If you want a potent off-roader that makes just as a big of a statement on the road as it will along a mountainous trail, the Ford Bronco Raptor and Jeep Wrangler 392 are two of the best options. However, which is quicker in a straight line?
While some had anticipated that Ford would equip the Bronco Raptor with a V8, it didn’t and has instead fitted it with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6. This engine is good for 418 hp and 440 lb-ft (596 Nm) of torque, quite a substantial leap from the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 available on the standard Bronco that produces 330 hp.

By comparison, the Jeep Wrangler 392 does have a V8, namely a 6.4-liter naturally-aspirated Hemi that pumps out 470 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque.
The Fast Lane Car conducted a series of drag races between the pair and the results speak for themselves. In tests performed roughly a mile above sea level, the Wrangler 392 sprinted down the quarter-mile in 15.2 seconds while the Bronco Raptor couldn’t do any better than 16.1 seconds.
The Jeep has a significant advantage off the line. While testing the duo out, The Fast Lane Car was able to record a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 6.66 seconds. That’s a long way off Jeep’s claim of 4.5 seconds but remember, these tests were not conducted at sea level. By comparison, the Bronco Raptor needed 7.89 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is noticeably slower than the Wrangler.
