The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the quickest-accelerating production cars ever conceived, capable of hitting 60 mph (96 km/h) in as little as 2.1 seconds and storming down the quarter-mile in 9.7 seconds.
We’ve seen the 918 race a multitude of different cars since its launch some nine years ago but to spice things up, and give it some real competition, CarWow recently decided to line it up alongside not a road-going supercar nor a road going sports bike and instead, a KTM Red Bull MotoGP bike that competed in the 2021 season. What’s more, the bike wasn’t being ridden by just any old enthusiast and was piloted by ex-MotoGP racer Dani Pedrosa.
The first race is incredibly close for the first half and while you may think the Porsche would have the advantage off the line, the ‘holeshot’ systems used by modern MotoGP bikes helps them accelerate at truly ferocious speeds, so much so that it matches the Porsche. As the speeds begin to build, the KTM fires off into the distance, leaving the 918 for dead.

The third race is perhaps the most entertaining. With Mat Watson behind the wheel of the Porsche, it pulls into an early lead over the KTM but once again, the bike had too much pull at higher speeds and claimed another easy win.
What’s particularly impressive about the acceleration abilities of the bike is that it outsprinted the Porsche despite spinning up its rear tire for roughly half the length of the quarter-mile.
A handful of rolling races were also performed but to try and give the Porsche an advantage, the car was rolling in 2nd gear at 40 mph while the bike was sitting in 5th gear at 40 mph. Remarkably, the MotoGP bike still had enough power and torque to beat the hybrid hypercar.
