Low-Mileage R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R In Midnight Purple Is Museum Quality And Headed To Auction

The Nissan Skyline GT-R is an automotive icon in almost all of its forms and it’s so popular here in America that as it’s become old enough to import, prices have skyrocketed. That’s what makes us so interested to see what this 1995 R33 Skyline GT-R will go for as it crosses the auction block in the near future. It’s finished in Midnight Purple and has just 988 miles (1,590 km) on the odometer.

Even without those added benefits, this is a highly desirable car. The 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six under the hood was factory-rated at 276 hp but we know that similar examples tend to put up higher numbers on a dynamometer. That power makes its way through a five-speed manual transmission and into a special ATTESA AWD system.

Compared to the R32 that came before it, the R33 GT-R offered more space and proved to be the perfect precursor to the R34. The auction listing rightly points out that games like Gran Turismo popularized the Skyline here in the United States but it wasn’t until these cars became 25 years old that we could import them. Thankfully, that leg work is already done and it’s sitting in Monterey, California, waiting on its next owner to pick it up.

This particular car is special too because it’s so well preserved. Unlike a barn find that has to be restored, this car is in “as-delivered” condition. One quick look at the market for R32, R33, and R34 GT-Rs will show you that many have been modified. Owning one like this is an opportunity to actually experience exactly what Nissan built when they really went for it.

Finally, Midnight Purple is perhaps the most desirable color that one could hope to find on a car of this condition. It’s widely revered as one of two paint colors, along with Millennium Jade, that Skyline GT-R buyers specifically search for. It’s easy to see why too. These sports cars can trade anywhere from the mid-$50,000 mark up well beyond six figures. We get the feeling that this should fetch a pretty penny when it goes over the auction block. It’s a part of RM Sotheby’s Monterey event that will take place from August 18-20.
