Toyota has officially confirmed a new Crown is coming through a dedicated website in Japan. The new model is set to debut on July 15, merging the lines of sedans and SUVs.

The teaser starts with a question concerning the bodystyle of the upcoming model. Then we see the new logo with a “Discover your Crown” lettering underneath. Mind you, each generation of the Crown sedan came with a slightly different version of the crown logo which is being renewed once more with simpler graphics.

Besides the “Sedan? SUV?” nod that is likely pointing towards a crossover-style model, Toyota hasn’t given us any details on the upcoming Crown. However, a bunch of patent images that recently surfaced online are showing a completely new model with a fastback crossover silhouette and familiar styling cues from the bZ4X.

According to earlier reports, the new Toyota Crown will adopt a crossover-ish bodystyle and is expected to be offered in Japan, China and North America. Leaked documents from dealerships suggest the model could arrive in the US as early as in October 2022. Japanese media report that the new Crown will be based on the TNGA-K architecture, offered in FWD and AWD forms with hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

Automakers are leaning towards fastback crossovers combining a higher ground clearance with an inclined roofline. Besides the upcoming Toyota Crown, we have already seen a similar treatment on the Ford Evos, the Citroen C5 X and the Peugeot 408. We expect to see more teasers of the new Crown in the coming days, prior to the full debut on July 15.
