The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD is in the works and our spy photographers have snapped it in the midst of testing for the very first time.

On first impressions, you could be tricked into thinking this is a prototype of the next GMC Sierra. However, an analysis of the front fascia shows familiar Silverado HD design traits, in particular the placement of the front fender badges and the presence of headlights that are clearly identifiable as those from Chevrolet, not GMC.

One of the more intriguing design features of the current Silverado HD is the presence of a two-tiered headlight design. It appears as though Chevrolet will adopt a more traditional single headlight unit for the new 2024 model, complete with LED light signatures similar to the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. Vertically-stacked fog lights are also visible on this prototype.

It’s not just the exterior of the pickup truck that was snapped by our photographers. Indeed, we have various images of the car’s interior which includes a newly-designed dashboard with an enlarged 13.4-inch infotainment screen. This particular prototype appears to be a High Country variant and has the most luxurious of interiors. Among the key visible features are the open-pore wood accents, side-by-side cupholders, a column shifter, and a new center arm rest.

Powertrain details are not yet known. The current model is fitted as standard with a petrol-powered 6.6-liter V8 with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft (629 Nm) of torque while an optional Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 is also offered. This engine is good for 445 hp and 910 lb-ft (1,233 Nm).

Our sources tell us that Chevrolet originally intended on launching the new Silverado HD for the 2023 model year but that supply chain issues prompted it to delay it until the 2024 model year. A global debut for the new model is expected for the first quarter of 2023, meaning it will launch less than 12 months after Ford’s new Super Duty.
