Acura ZDX Returning In 2024 As A GM-Based Electric Performance Crossover

Acura is dusting off the old ZDX moniker for use on the brand’s first electric crossover, which will arrive in 2024.

While the original ZDX was an ill-fated crossover coupe that was killed off in 2013, the company has high-hopes for the upcoming model as it will “feature many of the styling themes” introduced on the Acura Precision EV concept.

The automaker is keeping details under wraps, but said the ZDX is being co-developed with GM and will ride on their Ultium platform that underpins the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and GMC Hummer EV. Acura also confirmed plans for a ZDX Type S, which promises to put the “driver experience first.”

The ZDX is currently being created by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, which also gave birth to the original model. Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, stated the new crossover “represents the start to what will be an accelerated path toward electrification by the end of the decade and the key role the Acura brand will play in our company’s global goal to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.” He added, “Acura will remain focused on performance in the electrified era and Type S will continue to represent the pinnacle of this direction.”

Since the 2024 Acura ZDX will follow in the footsteps of the Precision EV concept, we can expect it to be a dynamically styled crossover that features a fully-enclosed Diamond Pentagon grille, which may incorporate illumination as seen on the concept. The ZDX could also have an eco-friendly interior as the concept used recycled plastic as well as Forest Stewardship Council certified wood trim.
