Following the debut of the Alpha5 in prototype form at Pebble Beach, joined by the trio of concepts from its fictional past in 1:4 scale, DeLorean unveiled two more concepts. The 2024 Alpha5 Plasmatail is a wagon-style variant of the grand tourer, and the 2040 Omega is a futuristic baja-inspired concept envisioning the distant future of the brand.

Starting with the concept that looks and sounds more plausible for production, the 2024 Alpha5 Plasmatail is sharing its fully electric underpinnings and several body panels with the regular Alpha5, but it sports a different roofline and a redesigned tail.

The wagon, or should we say shooting brake, has a more practical hatchback, without sacrificing the sporty looks. The inclined rear windshield is covered by a roof spoiler, while the pronounced rear shoulders, full-width three-level LED taillights and the pronounced diffuser are sourced from the coupe-style grand tourer. Despite the different bodystyle, DeLorean also kept the large gullwing doors which is a signature element for the brand.

DeLorean claims that the new bodystyle variant retains the same capacity for the passengers with increased storage space. We didn’t get to see photos of the interior, but it is most likely carried over from the Alpha5, with four individual seats, a digital cockpit and a high-mounted floating center console.

Moving on to the second concept car, the DeLorean Omega is an off-roader designed for 2040. According to the company, the Omega “was designed with roots in baja-themed off-road racing” and represents a “departure from traditional automotive design”. Indeed, the vehicle looks like something we would expect to see in a design student competition, with futuristic styling cues.

The Omega has an aerodynamic silhouette with a coupe-style roofline, gullwing doors, high ground clearance, and massive wheels. The tires and rims are integrated, LED lights are sticking out of the body, the bumpers are minimized and there are no visible side windows (although they could be body-colored). The hexagon-shaped elements on the rear windscreen look similar to the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR concept, while some of the suspension components are exposed.

Both models were showcased in static prototype form at the DeLorean house, but at least they were on 1:1 scale. The Omega is just a design study but the Alpha5 Plasmatail concept could potentially evolve in a production model since it has many carry-over parts from the regular Alpha5. The market launch for the DeLorean Alpha5 is scheduled for 2024, with the company suggesting it will be joined by other production models in the near future.
