The all-electric Zeekr 001 has set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest drift ever recorded by an electric vehicle. It has also set a record for the fastest slalom completed by an EV.

Zeekr is a brand under the Geely umbrella and the 001 is a production version of the Lynk & Co Zero Concept, first unveiled in September 2020. In setting a new record for the fastest EV drift, the car’s rear was kicked into a powerslide at 207.996 km/h (129.2 mph).

Not satisfied with simply breaking this record, Zeekr set a new benchmark for an electric vehicle slalom, weaving between 50 cones equally spaced in just 49.05 seconds. The two records were broken earlier this month under the supervision of an adjudicator from Guinness World Records at the CATARC proving ground in China.

Powering the Zeekr 001 are a pair of electric motors that combine to pump out 536 hp and more than 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. This amount of power allows the Shooting Brake to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds and a 124 mph (200 km/h) top speed. Zeekr sells the car with 86 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, with the latter providing up to 435 miles (700 km) of range on a single charge.

Accelerating isn’t the only thing the 001 can do quickly. It also has fast charging capabilities of up to 360 kW, meaning 75 miles (120 km) of range can be added in just five minutes. Geely plans to establish 2,200 charging stations for the Zeekr brand across China by the end of 2023.

Zeekr officially launched the 001 in China last October and has been delivering cars since. The automaker is targeting a European launch in 2023 and already has plans to ramp up production at the Zeekr Intelligent Factory in China.
