The Nio ET7 has been confirmed to feature an advanced, 23-speaker sound system developed by Swedish digital audio pioneer Dirac.

The system used in the Nio ET7 features the Dirac Opteo Professional sound optimization solution. Ordinarily, a car’s cabin is considered a very challenging acoustic environment as speakers cannot be positioned as optimally as they would in a home theater, for example. This means the speakers interfere with each other and cause distortion and reduce audio clarity.

Dirac Opteo Professional aims to overcome these challenges by enabling all the speakers in the ET7 to work intelligently together and correct each other’s impulse responses thanks to the Swedish company’s multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) mixed-phase impulse response correction technology.

The two companies state this solution removes the unwanted effects of the cabin and creates ideal loudspeaker responses for maximum fidelity and the best possible bass performance. The 23-speaker system consists of high, middle, and bass speakers in three units, four overhead channel speakers, and a subwoofer.

“At NIO, we wanted to deliver the ultimate immersive sound experience in the ET7 – so that passengers across all seats can listen to music as if they were in a concert hall,” Nio Engineers vice president Danilo Teobaldi said. “As we knew doing so required more than enabling immersive content, we built the best possible sound system for the ET7, then turned to Dirac and its industry-leading digital optimization to take the performance to an even higher level. Our collaboration with Dirac helped us ensure that our users could experience the best automotive sound system on the market.”

The Nio ET7 was first unveiled for the Chinese market at the start of 2021. It is available with a 70 kWh battery pack offering 328 miles (500 km) of range, a 100 kWh pack with 435 miles (700 km) of range, and a 150 kWh battery pack that increases the range to 621 miles (1,000 km).
