The Bugatti Chiron is undoubtedly one of the most significant hypercars in history. As many of you said in a recent QOTD, the Tesla Model S is probably the most significant of the 21st century period. When the two match up on the drag strip, the Tesla proves why the automotive world is making the switch to electricity.

The YouTube channels Triple F and Drag Times got together to bring us these races and they move quickly. The Chiron and its W16 quad-turbocharged engine develop some 1,500 hp (1,118 kW) while the Tesla makes 1,020 (760 kW) with its electric motors. Both leverage AWD to put the power down but the Tesla has a distinct advantage.

It doesn’t have to wait for any mechanical force to be converted to forward motion and because of that, it rips off of the start line so fast that even the Chiron can’t catch it. In fact, over the course of five different races, the Bugatti only manages to come away the victor in one.

That’s an 80 percent win ratio for the Tesla and the only time it doesn’t come out ahead is when the Chiron gets a better launch and that ultimately comes down to the human factor. Even when these cars start at 40 mph (64.3 km/h), the Tesla pulls away and never lets the Bugatti back into the fray.

This film shows us a few wild details that probably wouldn’t have seemed possible 10 or 15 years ago. For example, one of the world’s fastest turbocharged cars, worth well over $3 million, can’t build boost and put that power down fast enough to beat a mass-produced electric car. Additionally, it shows how much more refined supercars are today.

Certainly, both of the drivers in this video have extensive seat time in hugely powerful cars. Nevertheless, automotive technology has come so far that just about anybody can take these two monsters down the track at full speed without any real danger so long as they manage to keep the front wheel pointed straight and brake in time before the turn at the end.

Before the video ends the gentlemen agree to a rematch when Triple F gets its new Chiron Super Sport in the near future. We can’t wait to see the results.
