This is the first hybrid model from the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, dubbed the Xingchen and now officially on sale in the Chinese market from 99,800 Yuan ($14,459).

Powering the Wuling Xingchen is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works alongside an electric motor with 100 kW (134 hp). While the company hasn’t announced combined horsepower and torque figures, it says the SUV can accelerate from 0-60 km/h (0-37 mph) in 3.2 seconds.

The SUV is also very frugal on fuel. In fact, Wuling notes that it consumes 4.6 liters per 100 km (51.1 US mpg) in urban environments and 5.7 lt/100 km (41.2 US mpg) over the combined cycle.

The exterior design of the Xingchen is quite eye-catching and uses the car manufacturer’s ‘wing-moving aesthetics’ design language. The front is characterized by an upright grille finished in black and connected to a pair of angular, rectangle headlights. Separate fog lights are also featured on the SUV, as is a black lower front bumper and silver skid plate.

Spin around to the rear and you will notice the triangular taillights that are connected with a piece of gloss black trim. Car News China notes that the Xingchen measures 4,954 mm (195 inches) long, 1,820 mm (71.6 inches) wide, and 1,750 mm (68.9 inches) tall, complete with a 2,750 mm (102.8 inch) wheelbase.

The interior is loaded with features that customers will appreciate. For example, there is an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Over-the-air updates are also available through Wuling’s ‘Ling OS’ operating system. Those in the second row can enjoy seats with backrests that tilt back by 14 degrees, while a panoramic sunroof can be optioned for some added opulence.
