Big-capacity naturally aspirated engines are dying out and that’s what makes cars like this E60-generation BMW M5 particularly desirable.

This iteration of the M5 has always been a bit of an interesting one due to its use of a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V10. We have no idea what BMW’s board was thinking when it opted to fit its flagship super sedan with a V10 whereas its rivals were using V8s but we’re very glad it did something different as the finished product was really unlike anything before – or after.

Up for auction through Bring a Trailer, this E60 M5 is being offered at no reserve with manufacturer’s literature, a window sticker, keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title. It has been driven ~67,000 miles (~107,800 km).

Adorning the exterior of the car is a shade dubbed Silverstone Metallic and the listing notes that paint-protection film has been applied to the front bumper, headlight lenses, and part of the hood. The original silver 19-inch Style 166 wheels remain and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires measuring 255/40 at the front and 285/35 at the rear.

A look inside the cabin reveals seats clad in black Merino leather and Walnut Maderia wood trim across the dashboard, center console, and doors. Among the key features are heated and ventilated seats, a head-up display, six-disc CD changer, dual-zone climate control, and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Then we get to the V10, BMW’s famed S85. This engine isn’t just special because it has 10 cylinders but also because it has independent throttle bodies and when new, was good for 500 hp and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque. This engine sends its power through the rear wheels courtesy of a seven-speed SMG sequential transmission.

By the way, this M5 was sold on Bring a Trailer in late June, fetching $23,111. It will be interesting to see if it sells for more than that this time around.
