Peugeot’s UK division is marking the arrival of its quirky 408 crossover with a limited run of 50 First Edition Cars that come packed with extra equipment.

The 50 cars are based on the already-high-spec GT version of the 408 but top up the list of standard equipment with 20-in “Monolithe” diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7.4 kWh on-board charger for the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and a Driver & Passenger Seat Pack. That last one might make you imagine non-First Edition buyers must be driving around on beer crates, but actually means this version comes with Alcantara, seat heating, electric adjustment and a five-program massage function.

Other benefits of grabbing one of the first 50 crossovers include a complimentary Pod Point charging box for your home, £500 of public charging credits through Octopus Energy’s Electroverse network, and a service package covering four years and 40,000 miles of driving.

Every First Edition 408 is painted in Obsession Blue metallic paint, but much of the specification is unchanged from the GT’s, including Peugeot’s now familiar i-Cockpit dashboard and small steering wheel, and a 222 hp (225 PS) hybrid powertrain that consists of a 1.6-liter petrol engine and electric motor, both driving the front wheels. Other 408 models are available with straightforward combustion power, and Peugeot will add a fully-electric version within a year.

Peugeot says the limited-run car costs £43,250, but hasn’t made it easy to work out whether or not it’s good value because we’re still waiting to find out prices for the other models in the range. The 408 will be available in Alllure, Allure Premium and GT trims, and the starting point is rumoured to be around £30k, but we’ll have two wait until Peugeot officially reveals the car at the Paris Motor Show later this month to find out for sure.

And if you’re in the UK and fancy putting one of these well-specced 408s in your garage don’t bother heading down to your local dealership to get that order in. The First Edition is only available to order online via Peugeot’s Buy Online platform.
